[Non-spoilery] The Demon's Lexicon flailing

1. YES YES I got almost everything right AHAHAHAHA >=D

2 a. Love the one easter egg [info - livejournal.com]sarahtales dropped in the book =)
Suddenly made me see two of the characters in terms of Maya's HPverse.

2 b. I'm not the only crazy fan who contemplated the possibility of a TDL/FMA x-over/pastiche, yeah? Just think: homunculus, the philosopher's stone and automail in TDL-verse. *whimpers at the thought of Alan outfitted with automail*

2 c. There are ENDLESS pairing possibilities between Nick/Alan/Mae/Jamie. Nick/Alan, Nick/Mae, Alan/Mae, Nick/Mae/Alan, Nick/Jamie, Alan/Jamie, Nick/Alan/Jamie...you catch my drift.

3 a. Love how the second and third book will come out in 2010 and 2011 YESSSS \o/
3 b. This would mean me spending $45+ every year for the series. (~$30 for the Japanese translation and ~$15 for the UK cover.)
3 c. I need to buy a book cover for the uber-pretty Japanese translation.

4. The night after I finished the book, I kept on having vague dreams/impressions about Nick. And possibly [SPOILERY main antagonist's name].

5. If I use random Japanese The Demon's Lexicon quotes for my post subjects, that won't be spoilerific to you guys, will it?
If any Japanese readers on my F-list want to read TDL and haven't, please let me know now.

"one of my sons went to prison and the other has been shot, has killed a man,

and is currently running for his life," Ethan said, and now his voice was so incongruously pleasant as to be grotesque.

Star Trek XI recs:

1. [info] - livejournal.commidnight_city's [fanart] - star trek stuff

It's cute like a v. v. cute, LOLarious thing X-D
Guess the movies! (Hint: both by Pixar =3)
Kid!Spock in a Starfleet summer camp get-up is the BEST THING EVARR <333

2. [info] - livejournal.comhollycomb's Sulu/Chekov fics, which I'm totally all over, once I get over the reflexive tic of "Hikaru no Go! Touya Akira!" whenever I read Chekov calling Sulu "Hikaru" ^^;;
2a. Trouble Sleeping (Sulu/Chekov, R)
Summary: Sulu and Chekov sleep in the same bed, but they're never in it at the same time.
How they got together in the end. Sulu PINING. V. sweet <3

2b. Space Sickness (Sulu/Chekov, NC-17)
Summary: Chekov is sick, Sulu is lost on an alien planet, Kirk is a cockblock.
Established relationship. Sweet and h/c and atmospheric and just right *_*

2c. Theoretically (Sulu/Chekov, NC-17)
Summary: Sulu makes Chekov watch the classic American Terminator movies. Chekov has some thoughts.
I wanna watch the new Terminator movie because Anton Yelchin's in it, but apparently it's even more awful than T3? ^^;;

2d. If I Didn't Care (Sulu/Chekov, NC-17)
Summary: Kirk and Chekov have a harrowing experience together on a dangerous planet, and Sulu is definitely not jealous.

If you only have time to read two, read the first two. If you only have time to read one, read "Space Sickness."

Sulu pining *_* Chekov seducing Sulu >=D

3. [info] - personalrageprufrock's new WIP: Discourses in Management (Lab), pt 1/? (PG-13, for language)
Summary: “How’s it going?” the instructor asks, her voice a harmony, hovering nearby. / "Futilely,” Spock volunteers at the same time Jim says, “Shitty.”

In other news, even though Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) is a cheap, loli-shota knock-off of Kaori Yuki's Count Cain, I did enjoy the Bengali Prince arc, because no manga is complete without SURPRIZE appearance of South Asian/Middle Eastern/teeny European Kingdom royalty.

Also, can't help but be amused by the American chef (An American chef in a British household? lololol).

Okay, I lie, my fav. character is still the Bengali prince's servant.

Shadow of the Templar rec & fav. non-spoilery snippets

Several of my post titles since April are quotes/snippets that have compelled three of you to wonder, "Who's Simon?"

Simon 'Templar' Drake is from Shadow of the Templar series, which some of you probably have heard about from [info] - livejournal.comsansa1970's rec last year. The series follows an FBI team and a world-famous jewel thief in a series of cases. The main pairing is Simon Drake (FBI team leader)/Jeremy Archer (thief). Banter, random geekery...oh and Archer is British =P What's not to love? ;-) Read more... )

Simon Drake aka Templar 29 y.o., 6'3", team leader, defender of the free world, an all-American middle-class boy from the Midwest.
* Good-looking and knows it >=D
* Repeatedly tell Archer point-blank that his job and his team members are way more important than him. Ouch. IDK why Archer doesn't just dump him. Oh right, because he is SO FINE.

Jeremy Archer aka Shadow aka 'James Crown', and dozens other aliases
27 y.o., 5'10", criminal, adversary, pain in the ass, British. Read more... )

Nathan 'Nate' Waxman aka Specs 28 y.o., 5'9", tech (hardware), bomb disposal, all-around mascot, a nice Jewish boy from New Jersey.
Has a crowbar with "Speak Friend And Enter" etched down the length of the grip. Read more... )

Michael 'Mike' Takemura aka Honda aka 'that crazy bastard' aka 'the loose cannon'
27 y.o., 6'1, undercover work, combat/tactical driving, general muscle, crazy
The Brooklyn-born son of a first-generation Japanese-American father and a mother of Hispanic descent.
* I just LOVE that his nickname is Honda. Not as bad as Toyota, but still. Read more... )

Sandra 'Sandy' Leone aka Springheel 28 y.o., 5'7", second-in-command, undercover work, general muscle
Came from old New England money. The best martial artist on the team. Have kicked Mike's ass so bad on numerous occasions.
* The only woman on Simon's team, but she doesn't feel like a token female character at all. Read more... )

Jonathan 'Johnny' Pilgrim aka Texas 33 y.o., 6'0", weapons wrangler, general muscle
Started his law enforcement career with the local police force.
* I like his interaction with Specs, mostly. So awesome protective =3 Like his jibes at Honda too. Read more... )

Richard 'Rich' Story aka Specs Two, 30 y.o., 5'6", tech (software), hacker-of-all-trades
A computer genius par excellence (and a nerd in the most classic socially-awkward sense). Native Seattleite.
* Total jerk to Archer, but you can't help but like him. Read more... )

Food: Culture, Baby Carrots and Bento Boxes

1. And the Americanization of this batch of second generation Asian Americans is complete.

Two weeks ago, my friend--let's call her Sara--offered a group of preschoolers-and-older children black sticky rice pudding. Sara gave each kid a spoonful and asked them to "just try it."
Girl #1: *diplomatic grin* "We don't like this. Can we have goldfish crackers please?"

Girl #2: "I want Oreos!"

Boy #1: "Brownies!"

Sara's 1.5-y.o. daughter liked it, and Girl #2 shoved her plate across the table. "I don't want it. You eat it."

Granted, Sara should have heated up the dish and served it with coconut milk (It's not black sticky rice pudding without coconut milk!111), but it made me sad that they rejected the dish outright as being unfamiliar.

Food is so intertwined with Asian culture, and I'm not sure what to think of Asian Americans who are cut off not only from their grandparents' language, but also Asian food.
...and greasy Chinese take-aways are not Chinese food X_x;;

P.S. I do find it all sorts of awesome that Girl #1 has perfectly combined Asian "Respect your elders" with American "Be polite and diplomatic to get what you want." X-D

***

2. I knew there was a reason why I don't like baby carrots.
[T]he cute baby carrots found in the supermarket are not a variety grown by nature but rather the product of technology. They are formed by a machine that cuts them out from full sized older carrots and in some cases, puts green food colouring at the "stem" end for further effect. --Carrots

And:
The success of baby carrots speaks to two things about American culture that sort of bug me:
1. The desire for food that is uniform in appearance and taste.
2. The desire for food to be sterile, already prepared and washed, and packaged for quick, mindless eating.
--Dickson, Andrea. Baby Carrots - The Frugal Idea That Isn't

I don't know why the fact that they don't have a yellow center didn't clue me in D:
This is why I'd rather buy fresh carrots, wash, peel and slice. No wonder baby carrots aren't tender at all O_o

***

3. Food is not only about taste, but also presentation. Especially Japanese food.
(Chinese food, for the most part, is a slapdash stir-fry "It's fresh and steaming hot. EAT IT." thing.)

Yes, I've seen beautiful creative arrangements in generic plastic containers. No, throw-some-food-together in a bento box does not mean it's bento.

But the bento box is part of the presentation. Beautiful food arrangement in a generic plastic box = beautiful food arrangement in a generic plastic box. I'm not Japanese but I'm elitist on the subject, 'kay? =/
Also, you can get a bento box for as low as $1.50. (Ichiban Kan, Daiso)

(I always ask for a bowl & a pair of chopsticks at Chinese restaurants. I eat Chinese/Japanese/Korean noodles in a bowl with chopsticks* and spaghetti on a plate with a fork. I drink coffee in a mug and rice wine in a sake cup. Yes, I'm OCD about the strangest things.)
* I actually go one step further and eat Korean noodles with metal chopsticks. I don't own a Korean long-handled spoon though.

Two Scorpius recs & One AS/S wallpaper repost

:♥: The Evil Devil Child and the Perfect Gift by [info]who_la_hoop
NC-17, ~16,500 words
Pairing(s): In no particular order – AS/S/Draco, Harry/Scorpius, AS/S, H/D and all four boys together.
Summary: When Scorpius Malfoy – Legilimens-extraordinaire, perfect son and all-round kinky little bastard – discovers that his father harbours a certain fantasy involving Harry Potter, a submissive attitude and a priceless antique dining table, he sets out to make his father’s dreams come true. And if succeeding in his mission involves putting up with a naked, willing Albus Severus? Well, that’s a price that Scorpius will just have to pay.
“What would you like for Christmas, father?”

“Harry Potter on his knees before me,” Draco said, flinging down the newspaper onto the dining table and glaring at it. “Have you seen this, Scorpius?”

“Mmm,” Scorpius said, swallowing a mouthful of cereal. “On his knees, you say?”
NWS quote, ctd. )

And here's the A/N, because it cracked me up: How to write a filthy fest fic in fifteen easy steps!

:♥: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by [info]hollycomb
NC-17, Scorpius/Various Potters (ultimately, AS/S)
Summary: Outraged after a tell-all book defames his family, Scorpius decides to have his revenge by seducing every member of Harry Potter's immediate family -- including Harry himself, and his wife -- and writing a tell-all of his own. Things go swimmingly at first but rather off the rails toward the end.

[info]hollycomb called this crack. If it is crack, it is GENIUS crack.
I actually like Ginny here. And Unrequited!H/D = fun.

Reposting this here because akanecchi's LJ hasn't been updated since Dec. '07, her Web site is gone T_T, and the image links on her LJ is broken >_<

Eggplant/Tomato OTP, Junjou Romantica

I was watching Junjou Romantica yesterday and lol'd at Episode 2 because of this:

Eggplant/Tomato hybrid = Eggmato? Tomaplant? )

My wallpaper is Eggplant!Draco/Tomato!Harry by [info]red_rahl ("A Match Made in Veggie Heaven"), which was inspired by [info]potteresque_ire CharacterDeath!VegetableSmut ("Eggplant Parmesan").

FYI, I've read tomato slash (non-character death) before, penguin slash (+ baby!rock), snake/rock, etc.
(Considering that fruits are not inherently male/female, how do you differentiate slash from het? Eh.)

Anyway, Junjou Romantica is this totally cute Boys Love series that is not brain cell-damaging like Gravitation or lame-as-a-lame-camel-can-be like Kyou Kara Maouh. FYI, the anime art is actually an improvement over the manga art.
Also, I like this better than Love Mode because the characters are twisted in a v. believable way =DDD

Handy character guide, of a sort.

Plot summaries for Junjou Romantica, Junjou Egoist and Junjou Terrorist )

Fun, yes? X-D I sorta picture Miyagi/Shinobu as Snaco with past Snucius, haha. Except that Shinobu's unending fount of confidence is more Harry-ish than Draco-ish.

Go ahead and give it a try! =D Just be prepared for embarrassing sex noises here and there, haha.
And uhh...dub-con for Usami/Misaki >_> At least it's not chan because they're all at least 18 y.o.? X-D

Happy Boy's Day! =D

1. [info]summerslaughter posted 44 Hikago recs and other links for Hikago day.
(Why not 55? *g*)

2. I have no clue where she popped up from, but Lily Granger Weasley is the cutest redhead pumpkin ever =D And I can't wait until Scorpius arrives \o/

Threads here (Draco and Lily) and here (H/D)
Lily: I no shout. I talk Scopus, uh huh.
Hewwo, budder!

Draco: I beg your pardon.
Hello Buddha? What on earth makes you call him Buddha. If this is some reference to the way I look then I can only...
Did you just call Scorpius your brother?

3. I usually don't like a guy with facial hair, but Tony Stark? Hot. Especially from the back (his back, not his arse =P)
Ironman? PWNs.
The titanium alloy scales covering the spine & tailbone = love.

4. I don't know why I'm surprised that Harrison Ford has grown old, but I am.

5. Shia Labeouf actually looks good in a leather jacket and astride a motorbike.

Cute, Perky and Angsty

1. Konbini's song (full version)

Konbini = Convenience store
This is a v. cute song, even if you have no idea what's happening.

Here's what I understand: Read more... )

2. Arashi's "Happiness" ~ Lyrics

3. Anyone watched Matsumuto Jun's Boku wa Imouto ni Koi o Suru yet? (I am in love with my younger sister)
I've read the first manga volume, IIRC. I can't quite picture Jun in an angsty role, but he's pretty enough, and the girl playing his twin sister looks believable enough to be related to him.

How does the manga/movie end anyway? People dying?
They don't magically turn out to be not related by blood, do they? X-D

On the Attraction of Boys' Love and Androgyny

Disclaimer: This is my own observations on androgyny and the Japanese genre of Boys' Love.
I'm a Japanophile and have a few Japanese friends in rl, but I'm not Japanese. Just to let you know.
Wanky comments will be deleted =P

Plug at will. Am curious about what other people think.

Ten "H" Things I Love

(And by "H" I don't mean "ecchi" =P)
Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. Afterwards, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

[info]titti gave me the letter "H"

1. Harry/Draco. The fans, the fanfics, the fanarts <333
Since January 2005 ;-)

2. Half-blood Prince. The book that proves H/D is canon *g*

3. House, M.D. I love Hugh Laurie in any shape and form. House/Wilson, House/Chase, Foreman/Chase, Chase/Cameron...

4. Hatsuharu Souma from Furuba (Fruits Basket). *squees* I love how Haru went "Yuki is my first love." <333
And Black Haru is so awesome in his flirtatious lewdness X-D

5. Howl from Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle. I love him even before we know his real personality <3 The hair episode is just. so. much. love.

6. "House of Angels."* Am I allowed to love my own original fic this much? Dub-con teenage prostitution threesome. With a dash of het twincest and implied drug abuse. AHahahahahahhaa...

7. Haircut. Depending on who you ask, my new haircut makes me look like:
a. A Hongkong pop star
b. A Korean pretty boy
c. A well-known Chinese singer

8. Honey walnut prawn. It's not an authentic Chinese dish. You can only find it in this city. But it was love at first bite for me X-D

9. Ho Soon Yi. Cheapest great Korean restaurant around here. Plus there's Bubble tea and a Korean gift store right next door ;-)

10. Hung bao (New Year's money). More when getting and less when giving =P
Gave out 18 this year (lots of cousins GAH). I put $5 on top of two chocolate coins in golden wrappers & six assorted Japanese gummy fruit candies. Instant sugar rush and crash lol. Every single one of them gobbled everything at one sitting. From the 7-y.o.s to the 19-y.o.s. Heh.
Next year will give them 4 instead of 6 gummy candies each ^^;;

* That was also my first time ever scoring #1 @ [info]writing_game. Is it a sign? lolol
I'm currently writing 20 Things about Su Li over at [info]writing_game's fantabulous Valentine board ;-)
