[Non-spoilery] The Demon's Lexicon flailing

1. YES YES I got almost everything right AHAHAHAHA >=D

2 a. Love the one easter egg [info - livejournal.com]sarahtales dropped in the book =)
Suddenly made me see two of the characters in terms of Maya's HPverse.

2 b. I'm not the only crazy fan who contemplated the possibility of a TDL/FMA x-over/pastiche, yeah? Just think: homunculus, the philosopher's stone and automail in TDL-verse. *whimpers at the thought of Alan outfitted with automail*

2 c. There are ENDLESS pairing possibilities between Nick/Alan/Mae/Jamie. Nick/Alan, Nick/Mae, Alan/Mae, Nick/Mae/Alan, Nick/Jamie, Alan/Jamie, Nick/Alan/Jamie...you catch my drift.

3 a. Love how the second and third book will come out in 2010 and 2011 YESSSS \o/
3 b. This would mean me spending $45+ every year for the series. (~$30 for the Japanese translation and ~$15 for the UK cover.)
3 c. I need to buy a book cover for the uber-pretty Japanese translation.

4. The night after I finished the book, I kept on having vague dreams/impressions about Nick. And possibly [SPOILERY main antagonist's name].

5. If I use random Japanese The Demon's Lexicon quotes for my post subjects, that won't be spoilerific to you guys, will it?
If any Japanese readers on my F-list want to read TDL and haven't, please let me know now.

Shadow of the Templar rec & fav. non-spoilery snippets

Several of my post titles since April are quotes/snippets that have compelled three of you to wonder, "Who's Simon?"

Simon 'Templar' Drake is from Shadow of the Templar series, which some of you probably have heard about from [info] - livejournal.comsansa1970's rec last year. The series follows an FBI team and a world-famous jewel thief in a series of cases. The main pairing is Simon Drake (FBI team leader)/Jeremy Archer (thief). Banter, random geekery...oh and Archer is British =P What's not to love? ;-) Read more... )

Simon Drake aka Templar 29 y.o., 6'3", team leader, defender of the free world, an all-American middle-class boy from the Midwest.
* Good-looking and knows it >=D
* Repeatedly tell Archer point-blank that his job and his team members are way more important than him. Ouch. IDK why Archer doesn't just dump him. Oh right, because he is SO FINE.

Jeremy Archer aka Shadow aka 'James Crown', and dozens other aliases
27 y.o., 5'10", criminal, adversary, pain in the ass, British. Read more... )

Nathan 'Nate' Waxman aka Specs 28 y.o., 5'9", tech (hardware), bomb disposal, all-around mascot, a nice Jewish boy from New Jersey.
Has a crowbar with "Speak Friend And Enter" etched down the length of the grip. Read more... )

Michael 'Mike' Takemura aka Honda aka 'that crazy bastard' aka 'the loose cannon'
27 y.o., 6'1, undercover work, combat/tactical driving, general muscle, crazy
The Brooklyn-born son of a first-generation Japanese-American father and a mother of Hispanic descent.
* I just LOVE that his nickname is Honda. Not as bad as Toyota, but still. Read more... )

Sandra 'Sandy' Leone aka Springheel 28 y.o., 5'7", second-in-command, undercover work, general muscle
Came from old New England money. The best martial artist on the team. Have kicked Mike's ass so bad on numerous occasions.
* The only woman on Simon's team, but she doesn't feel like a token female character at all. Read more... )

Jonathan 'Johnny' Pilgrim aka Texas 33 y.o., 6'0", weapons wrangler, general muscle
Started his law enforcement career with the local police force.
* I like his interaction with Specs, mostly. So awesome protective =3 Like his jibes at Honda too. Read more... )

Richard 'Rich' Story aka Specs Two, 30 y.o., 5'6", tech (software), hacker-of-all-trades
A computer genius par excellence (and a nerd in the most classic socially-awkward sense). Native Seattleite.
* Total jerk to Archer, but you can't help but like him. Read more... )

Multi-fandom fanfic recs, from my extensive lurking years

(After I have an LJ, that is. Didn't bother saving links before LJ.)

Originally a tl;dr comment on syllic's post.

1. Don't you wish we have glasses that serve as a computer screen, and it tracks our eyeball movements so it scrolls down automatically as we read fanfic discreetly everywhere?
On the train, on the bus, in the car and on the road. In the market, on the run, in those meetings that're ho-hum.

2. I personally can't get into fanfic if I know zilch about the original source (Smallville and Merlin don't count because d-uh, everyone knows smth about Superman and King Arthur). Because fanfic always assumes some prior knowledge of canon.
And I need to know who is this Castiel guy and what is he doing sexxing up Dean, and is this Castiel person taller than Sam, older than sin, and have pretty pouty lips? And does he have wings? Is he an angel, a devil, incubus, what?
(Am not in the SPN fandom. Only watched the first four eps of SPN. Gave up.)

3. You should read Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief, The Queen of Attolia & The King of Attolia. It's children's book/YA/history-religious fantasy/THIEF. Because they are awesome (as awesome as Good Omens, in a different genre kind of way) and you can read them ON THE TRAIN/BUS/SUBWAY/PUBLIC TRANSPORT.

Multi-fandom recs grouped by fandoms: HP, Smallville, Good Omens )

Para-Investigator Toreth, you rock my world so hard.

For the last four days or so, I've been completely engrossed in Manna Francis' Administration series. I stayed up to read until I felt like throwing up (part exhaustion and part hunger), read in the car and got even more carsick, ignored everything else on the Internet...
(Can't remember the last time I'm so addicted to a book that I went with minimum sleep. It might've been Narnia at age 17 actually. Erm.)

I'll post a proper review with fav. quotes, warnings etc. when I get the books from Amazon. There are one novella and one short story that are not available on the author's Web site.
(I'm one of those strange breed of people who almost never buy a book unless I've read it and loved it).

Important (!): since I have many EvilBlondBritishMan!Fetishist in my F-list, I am perversely happy to inform you that Toreth, the main character, is blond. Praise be, etc.

1. [info]benebu posted ApocalypticHorsePersons in an Internet Cafe for me ♥

2. I posted Wizard Howl quotes from Diana Wynne Jones' House of Many Ways here.
The quotes from Howl's Moving Castle are here.

3. My Draco het drabbles are here at IJ.
