Notes: Written for startrekbigbang. Baseball AU in which all the characters are human, and the setting is some nonspecific time between now and 2258. Lots of nods to various baseball movies mashed up with lots of moments from/rearrangements of ST XI. Lots of other nods to things from the Trek canon (of any timeframe/reality) and para-canon, such as character names and backgrounds. Concept is inell's fault.

I gave in and we are getting the beagle puppy, from the animal shelter puppy wash.  This will raise our household count to me, Teh Rock, cousin, his SO, 3 dogs, a cat and 2 turtles.

This is the last animal, I swear.

I am also addicted to "Glee", so much so that I now have the soundtrack.   What does it say about me that I have never really cared much for Diana Ross (even in her younger days she looked like a female impersonator IMO) but I LOVE the Glee casts version of "You Keep Me Hanging On."

And I have listened to "Somebody to Love" 5 times thus far in the last hour.

So, I put up my first post to daily_deviant. For something I wrote quickly (having been obsessed with A Confusion of Will and Desire for the last two months), I'm pretty happy with it, except for the title, which is lame.

This one was odd to work on. The themes for November were clamps, costumes, eunuchs/castrati, and symphorophilia (arousal by watching or causing destruction and/or death). "Costumes" didn't really seem like enough to me, and I hate clamps so much that it's hard for me to write about them. Symphorophilia would be easy ... but I wasn't in the mood for something that dark. So I wrote castration because I didn't want to write darkfic. Um....

Researching physiological details was truly weird. I found support services for castrated men, historical notes on castrati, and quite a lot about self-castration, either for practical reasons or as a one-use-only fetish. o_0

Writing Sirius/Peter was also weird. I'm generally a Sirius/Remus person.

This is going to be another one of those fics no one reads, isn't it?

Okay, I'm in not too bad of shape with this assignment, I guess, unless I've woefully misinterpreted what it's supposed to do. The instructions were... terse. But my brain is seriously shutting down, so I'm going to quit working on it for tonight and come back in the morning.

CSA this week included: daikon, red radishes, turnips, a few little carrots, garlic, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, turnip greens (in addition to those on the turnips), dandelion greens, and purple beans. [Still around from previous weeks: cherry tomatoes, radishes, daikon, turnips, acorn squash, butternut squash, beets.] Turnip puree again, probably; cook some of the red radishes for SO; plain steamed beans; lettuce salad. I might turn the other greens into a tart (don't have that recipe online yet). I also have a recipe for shrimp with cherry tomatoes and feta (also not online) and have a pound of frozen shrimp, so maybe that (using last week's tomatoes, which are now about ripe).

Other than that... Taught classes. Got prep done for Monday for both classes. Had a meeting. Dealt with work email. Dictated about 800 words each on two different fics; one for a fest, the other DD. Played some with Juno.

Now waiting for SO to get home. He'd indicated he was going to try to get home early tonight, but that didn't happen; he decided he really needed to work out since he hadn't all week. Okay, fair enough, and I worked on the assignment meantime. But if he doesn't get back soon, we probably can't have our Friday night date since restaurants around here close pretty dang early even on weekends. So we'll see. There are some leftovers if we end up not doing anything tonight.

After a week and a half of pulling our hair out and shaking angry fists towards Luxembourg, we finally got back to what we should've been doing all along -- promoting this bloody Show! Yes, free publicity, RTL, why do you make this so hard?

The situation's not ideal by any means. Instead of capturing clips directly from the video stream like we used to, now we're stuck spending literally hours on screencaptures. It's totally draining -- the RTL player is, quite frankly, crap. Everytime it stalls, I have to rebuffer and restart the recording. On about a third of the files the soundtrack comes out wonky. And even at its best, the quality is jerky because it is, after all, a string of screencaps. THANK GOD THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN BEFORE REUNION!

Still! We posted episode* and we're getting comments again (they are like a drug, I tell you!) and I'm going to sit here and drink wine and spam like whoa. And if I have enough wine, I just might make a defiant "you can't take the Show sky from me" vid.

* This episode was nabbed before we left for Germany; it's not representative of the new stuff we're getting. You'll know what I mean when you see those in a few days. Boy, will you know what I mean.

It may not shock you to learn that after six months of intense RPG action, the Askworld kids have kept in contact. Because we both work for nonprofit agencies, snaxcident and I tend to have the occasional "Hey, NFPs could use this!" moment, which I swear is all that I intended when I sent an innocent email...that prepared me for WORLD DOMINATION.

And now I have freshly made peppermint-tea ice cream in the freezer, and fresh bread for gashouse eggs for dinner tonight.

And I'm hauling a bunch of stuff home from work so I get to take a taxi, and tomorrow I'm going to the Art Institute (!!) to see the exhibit of Caldecott book art and the Victorian photocollage and the freshly opened Apostles Of Beauty.

And it's member discount week, so I am going to treat myself to the fancypants restaurant instead of the cafeteria for lunch. I love the fancypants restaurant!

The hell is up with this day? Everyone I know has had a rotten time of it today. I burned myself baking bread. Now every kitchen implement I use regularly has officially bitten me at some point.

THIS DAY IS MORE THAN FIRED. I'M PUTTING OUT A HIT ON IT.

To the brave soul who inhumes this Thursday (never could get the hang of Thursdays) I offer a scoop of peppermint ice cream and a glass of Sonic Screwdriver (one part vodka, one part blue curacao or in my place rum hurricane mix, and four parts lemon-lime soda. It's evil in a glass).

I did get 1200 words on Valet of Anize today, though.

Hey, does anyone know the supposed reasoning behind drinking hot tea in the summertime? This is my supposition:

"In Anize, we drink hot tea even in the summer," she said, as I stood awkwardly by the desk. "Sit down, Carry. I think it's a mixture of masochism and common sense. Supposedly," she continued, as I settled on the edge of the bed, "the tea either raises your body temperature, making you more comfortable in the heat, or it makes you sweat to cool yourself. On the other hand, as a country we seem obsessed with discovering who can survive the worst heat."

Are either of those correct? Are there other theories? I'd love to hear superstitions about tea. :D

3fan_holidays will be running once again! This is the small ficlet fest I mod, now in its fifth year. Wow. It's a low-commitment, very friendly little exchange; participants only have to write as few as 100 words (up to 2000 max), in one of three fandoms: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Pirates of the Caribbean. You don't have to be familiar with more than one, and you can request fic in a fandom you're not comfortable writing. Go here for the info/signup post, and spread the word!

Finally finished and posted the next installment of HotM. I need to edit/submit a fest fic, finish another (which is becoming rather longer than I thought initially), and start on December's DD. Phew. Then there'll be Yuletide fic to write, too, and 3fan. Clearly my sanity is, hm, marginal when it comes to all this.

I have been hard at work! And I have to say, not one of my art pieces so far look like they were remotely drawn by the same artist! XD I've experimented with a lot of new things, so expect surprises :)

This is on top of my NaNoWriMo (currently at 8k, and I'm hoping to get to 12k tonight) and the Fic That Ate My Brain and Sold My Soul, aka Pain Management, a Snape/Hermione post-war BDSM fic. It grew from a short little smutty one-shot to a 5-chapter story with PLOT!

I posted to HP betas, but no-one's replied so far, so I'll try prodding the Flist. I need someone who's good with transitions. I generally can come up with some really decent plot and characterisation, but my strength is in short, emotionally-packed vignettes. So longer stories with one or more transitions can be a bit of a struggle. A beta good with Britishisms would be dearly loved as well!

All but the last chapter revolve around purely consensual het and BDSM, and a variety of kinks - not all the chapters are written yet so I can't tell you for sure what all will end up included. The last chapter DOES have some dubcon and torture and a bit of slash with other characters. Happy ending though, never fear!
