| HELLO FROM TWO AM!
I went to bed. Honestly. And slept! And then I woke up and wrote fanfic. Actually I finished it, and all. Seven chapters -- properly six, really, since two of them are short. Still, have you seen what sometimes passes for a "chapter" in fandom? Sometimes it's what I, in my own work, like to call a "paragraph".
This is the story where Ianto loses four years of his life, which I started writing I think about a week before my journal was cruelly retconned. Because life imitates art. Only in my life would this be a literal rule.
Orange juice, then bed. Mmm, bed. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Someone on my flist (please forgive my flu-addled brain but I can't remember who it was) posted some awesome pumpkin carving templates for Torchwood and Doctor Who fans. Now we've got Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer! If anybody tries this, I want pictures!!!
There are lots more there too, for BSG and SPN and all the other series with three-letter acronyms (AKA TLAs).

| ( Updates on the recovery effort. )
I thought you might like to see some trivia from what I've been recovering:
On seeing GoF: Also, my stepfather thinks that "Headmaster Baltimore is really cool" and my mother liked the makeup work on "Lord Voldemark."
In response to an overenthusiastic reader: Just as a general announcement, I'd like to make it plain that there will be no whippings, spankings, or sharp blades of any kind on my LiveJournal.
And I've been compiling all the LJ "names" I've had over the years. I remember the reasoning behind a few of them; others I can't imagine how they were prompted.
An Allegory on the Nile Spin and Other Vices Envied for Being a Whack Job Evil with a Twist of Lemon Dear Geoffrey Chaucer Shoeless Joe Jackson, Calling From Tangiers (song lyric) The Sandy-haired Son of Hollywood (song lyric) The Massive Continuity of Ducks (LPW quote) Inappropriate Shenanigans on a Library Ladder (LPW fanfic quote) Sleepless in St Nowhere (St Nowhere was the name I gave my gradschool town) A reasonable snake with abandonment issues (Seriously, where did this one come from?) | comments: Leave a comment |

| swtalmnd wrote me a delightful Draco/Percy ficlet, rated R for naughty thoughts.
[This is perhaps a good moment to note that I try to pimp gifts given to me, but occasionally I miss out on doing so... if I do, it's purely accidental and I apologize!] | comments: Leave a comment |
| Okay, so yesterday was 10/9/8. Did anyone else notice that?
And if you are a Nathan Fillion fan, or like me, enjoy laughing at ridiculous porn plots, go watch this now. PG Porn! here
Not much else to say. Still sick, gradually tightening up fic o'doom so I can post it over on petulant poetess, and did I mention the still sick? Yeah, that's my life right now. That and knitting (when I have enough energy to move, but not enough to make it out of bed to use the computer).
And last but not least, I must share yarn pron... This stuff is gorgeous and is going to the top of my XMas list. So pretty. | comments: Leave a comment |

| CSA today had arugula, pak choi, some other kind of greens, a couple of cukes, radishes, okra, broccoli, a couple of sweet peppers, and hot banana peppers. So... sausage/black bean/pepper/onion casserole (will use this week's and remainder of last week's sweet peppers); gumbo (will use this week's and last week's okra, perhaps will also toss in the the arugula); need to freeze all the hot peppers sitting around; salad (will use some of the cukes and radishes); probably just stir-fry the greens and steam the broccoli. *nods* And I have in the freezer some kalua pork, too, which maybe I'll pull out and have for me a couple of nights.
We're going to the art museum tonight, maybe, if SO has his run and shower in reasonable time. This is the last weekend for a good exhibit on Roman art which I'd like to see again, and there's a special "last Friday" thing which goes from 5-8 with cash bar and live music and so on. I will never, ever, understand SO when it comes to these things though; he was the one who wants to do this, and it's already 5:30 and he hasn't even begun his run yet. WTF? If we get there at 7:30, what is the point? Yes yes, the museum is open till 9, but we won't have eaten dinner before we go.

Time waits for no man, and Luna's got the invitation to the viewing sitting right out on the table. She must have left it out so I would see. I have to be more careful about disturbing things when I open the window. Bit gusty lately and it won't do to disrupt her papers. Or have to get off the ceiling to pick up an invitation that blew onto the floor.
(The mapping and inventory spell is easier to use on a dig.)

When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech.
Miracle Max: Sonny, true love is the greatest thing in the world, except for a nice MLT: mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. Tthey're so perky, I love that. | comments: Leave a comment |
| - Conn. high court rules gay couples can marry. While this is another milestone, I'd like to remind everyone (and especially same gender couples) that the marriages are not legal for the federal government.
In 1996, Congress passed and Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act, making same sex marriages illegal. Several practical consequences: 1. Presumably they aren't covered by the 'full faith and credit' clause of the Constitution, which means your perfectly legal marriage doesn't have to be recognized by other states (like Virginia). 2. You can't file your federal taxes as a married couple 3. If your spouse s not a legal permanent resident or citizen, s/he can't get a green card through your marriage.
Having said that, I have faith in the judiciary, even a conservative one. I'm hoping that sooner or later someone challenges the Defence of Marriage Act.
- The weather is insane. It's so hot that there are roses in my garden. I guess the hot temperature after the cold ones have confused my plants.
- My sister is insane. I figured I'd throw that one in.
- I've stopped reading about the elections and the candidates; I've reached saturation point. However, I'm addicted to the market, which is weird, because all my investments are solid local, state and federal insured bonds, but I know that NYC will feel the repercussions a lot more than the rest of the world.
- Grey's Anatomy is so much better this season. Even Meredith stopped being whiny. I hope this trend continues, because I love the show when she's not bitching about life, love, and parents.
- Eleventh Hour - I watched this instead of Life on Mars, because I couldn't deal with a third version of the pilot. I really like the mix of science and police work in Eleventh Hour. I love the fact that there is really little chance for the 2 main characters to be romantically involved. I really like my cop shows to be cop shows (NCIS and CSI) and not turn into soaps.
- Sons of Anarchy - speaking of shows turning into soap, that's not the case with SOA. Way too much violence and realism for that.
- Supernatural - After the last episode, I came to a few conclusions: 1. I need to stop analyzing this show. The writing is like JKR's, it's got a great premises, but there are holes as big as the Grand Canyon. If you start looking too closely, you'll see the darkness and won't enjoy the whole. The opposite is true too: I need to stop reading all the squee, because it makes me wonder if I'm watching the same show as other people. 2. I find Dean to be sexier. I don't mean Jensen v. Jared. I mean Dean and for me they are two different people. 3. Despite #2, I see things from Sam's pov. I will always identify with him. He's the logical one, the socially adept one, the one who knows about right and wrong 'according to society'. I understand him, and I'm much more willing to justify what he does as opposed to what Dean does. I admit I was very pissed with Dean last night. 4. Sam is not emo!kid. Seriously! At least not after season 1. I've seen this over and over on my flist, but Sam doesn't really talk, not when he's made a decision. Sam turns emo and 'wants to talk' when he wants to convince someone to do things his way. People don't see the difference, Dean doesn't see the difference, but it's so obvious to me, perhaps because I do the same thing. If Sam thinks something needs to be done, he will do it and either lie about it or tell people to fuck off. If Sam wants Dean to do something, then he'll come up with 'We need to talk'. That's not emo, that's a brilliant lawyer in the making. 5. I will ALWAYS like Sam and Dean more than Jared and Jensen. I'm in fandom for the characters. | comments: Leave a comment |
| So I posted yesterday's Narnia fic (Red Hart), which is Peter/OMC but not at all explicit, at ff.net, and today received this review: Not a fan of slash!
Now, it doesn't specifically say in the summary that it's slash, and ff.net doesn't have a choice for "original character" or "original male character" so Peter was the only one listed. But I think that "Peter seeks advice during the battles against the northern Giants, and grants his advisor a boon," which is the summary, is a pretty reasonable description of the content of the fic, especially given that there isn't even a kiss actually described; it's only implication.
I replied to say, "Fair enough; I'd recommend you not read slash then." (Words to that effect, anyhow.) Even if arguably there wasn't as much warning as this reader might have liked, there is really nothing offensive in the fic unless the entire possibility of same-sex attraction is offensive, in which case the person is going to have trouble in real life as well.
