"Twenty Things about Scorpius Severus Malfoy" (Gen, PG-13)
I can haz AS/S ship?
Written in a fit of inspiration after I speculated about who Draco’s wife might be. Might be expanded into a fic later. (If anyone’s interested, drop me a line and run with it!) Please point out any mistakes.

Please fill out my Scorpius fanon poll on LJ.

Rowling, various publishers including but not limited to Bloomsbury Books, Scholastic Books, Raincoast Books, and Warner Bros., Inc. :1: Scorpius got his first name from his grandfather, his second name from his father, and his Chinese name from his mother. He was profoundly glad he was not named after a flower.

:2: Scorpius was born with dirty blond hair and light brown eyes. His father worked a spell that lightened his hair to white blond as he grew up. His mother drew the line at changing his eye color. “If you change his eyes, you might as well change his soul.” His father didn’t argue after that.

:3: When he was three and a half, Scorpius asked for a puppy. He got a baby sister instead. She was wrinkly, slept all the time and couldn’t catch a ball. Scorpius helped his mother choose a name for his sister. His first choice was Phoenix, but he thought Jade was a cool name too.
That Christmas, he noticed three red spots on Jade’s cheeks. The next morning, Scorpius woke up with dragon pox.

:4: When Scorpius was nine, his mother moved to China to fill up a research position. She took Jade and two house-elves with her. Scorpius didn’t want to leave England, but he couldn’t help feeling that his mother loved Jade more than Scorpius and his father.

:5: Scorpius became friends with Albus when he found out that they shared the same middle name. They didn’t like their first names and decided to call each other “Score” and “Al.” When they both ended up in the Quidditch team as Chasers, the other Slytherins took to calling them “S Squared.”

:6: Score was careful to only refer to Albus as “Al” in his letters home. He suspected that his father was not fooled by this shorthand. His father only asked that he apply himself in Potions. He was not a bad student, but he didn’t share his parents’ fascination with potion-making. He preferred Charms and Arithmancy instead.

:7: Every week without fail, an eagle owl delivered sweets and letters to the Slytherin table. The handmade sweets came from his grandmother; the letters were from his father and his little sister.

Jade’s letters were usually a mixture of scribbled English, spidery Chinese characters and pencil sketches of strange animals. He always cast a translation charm with a fond sigh—she always forgot that he couldn’t read Chinese (He couldn’t even write his own Chinese name).

:8: His dorm mates thought that he was writing letters to his girlfriend. Even the older boys envied him for having such a devoted girlfriend. He never bothered correcting their misconception.

:9: Whenever his mother’s work brought her to England, she would show up at Hogwarts with presents in tow—rare potions and random treasures from China. Score never told her that he would rather she bring Jade instead.

:10: Score never accepted Al’s invitation to stay at his house during the summer holidays. He only saw his sister one month out of the year, and he didn’t want to miss a single day. Score only invited Al to the Manor for Christmas holidays because he didn’t want to share his sister with his best friend, and vice versa.

:11: Al finally wised up and extended the invitation to both Score and his sister. In the end, Scorpius sent a formal letter sealed with the Malfoy crest accepting the invitation. Even with Jade to fill up the long summer days, he had to admit that he still missed Al.

:12: The Potters couldn’t get over how Jade looked nothing like a Malfoy, especially since Score was a perfect replica of his father (save for his eyes). Jade adored Al and hated James on sight. That was indisputable proof to Score that they were brother and sister.

:13: Lily was glad at the chance of playing big sister to Jade. Score didn’t mind, as long as his sister didn’t catch Gryffindor germs. He would sit in the living room watching Lily brush Jade’s glossy brown hair and put it up in elaborate braids.

:14: When Score was fifteen, he and Al received their Prefect badges. Score was excited because this meant he could look out for his sister. When she was sorted into Ravenclaw instead, Score made Rose Weasley, a Ravenclaw prefect, swear on her copy of Hogwarts, the History to look out for Jade.

:15: The Christmas of his sixth year, Scorpius and Jade stayed at Hogwarts because their parents were going on a week-long cruise. At the Christmas feast, he bumped into Rose under the mistletoe. A mere twenty minutes later, Lily ambushed him under the same mistletoe.

James threatened him for compromising his sister’s virtue, but Score wasn’t listening because Al wouldn’t look him in the eye for some reason. The next day, Jade cryptically told him that she liked Al better than Rose or Lily.

:16: Score and Jade were invited to the Potters again that summer. Al was back to his normal self, the mistletoe incident apparently forgotten. Giddy after Al’s seventeenth birthday party, Score and Al sneaked off to the magical part of Chinatown to see the night market (Al took Score in side-along Apparition because Score wasn’t seventeen yet).

Al bought a jar of fossilized dragon heart even after Score said it was probably a fake. In a firewhiskey stupor, they stumbled upon a tattoo parlor and dared each other to get a tattoo.

:17: When they apparated into Al’s bedroom at three in the morning, Mrs Potter was waiting for them with an angry scowl. Mr Potter tried to placate her, “At least they stayed away from Knockturn Alley.” Mrs Potter was not swayed, especially after she smelled alcohol in their breath. Al was grounded to stay in his room for the rest of the summer.

:18: Score stayed with Al in his room for moral support. Meanwhile, Lily sulked because they didn’t bring her along on their adventure. After Al swore James into secrecy, Al and Score showed him their matching tattoo. It was a pair of intertwined snakes—one had white scales and the other green.

:19: Jade caught a glimpse of Score’s tattoo and told their parents about it (She was secretly upset that Score and Al didn’t include her in their plans). His mother looked bemused. “Thankfully you had the sense to not get something nonsensical in Chinese.”

Father just laughed. Score thought he sounded sad. “Well, at least it’s not a snake and skull tattoo.” For the first time, Score felt guilty about sneaking off with Al. After he had his Apparition license, he refrained from breaking Al out of his room (as per their earlier plans).

:20: In seventh year, Score found himself in the much coveted Head Boy position. The Head Girl was, predictably, Rose Weasley. Since the first day of school, Al moped about, complaining that Score spent all his spare time with Rose. When Jade pointed out at dinner that he was neglecting Al, Score snapped. “We see each other in classes and at meals all the time! What more does he want? Share my room?”

That evening, Al bypassed gawking students in the corridor and moved his trunk, broom and other worldly possessions into the Head Boy room.

Read the companion fic, "Twenty Things about Albus Severus Potter."

Thanks for commenting! =D

This is actually meant to be read first before Al's.

So, my original comment didn't show up. Boo! As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted...

I liked your twenty things, but I still don't feel like I know the characters as a whole--in your ficlet, yes, but not in the general verse.

It's funny, because I write minor characters all the time, and they're little more than a name to me. But maybe it just falls back to my cynicism about the ASS explosion and my preference to work with younger characters (er Harry-gen when they're about my age or a little older, I mean). I think I may find my ASS zone one day. Maybe what I really need is to sit down and write my own twenty things. Or try reading some of the ASS "classics" (any recs?)

So, yeah. I liked that Draco got together with Su Li. (I kinda love the idea of Draco/Luna or Draco/Susan Bones! If I wrote a fic, I'd be all... Astoria Greengrass Who? And, I guess, Poo for Rolf and--wait, who did Jo say Susan married? I keep thinking Neville, but didn't he marry Hannah? Er, anyway... This is a tangent that totally wasn't in my OC.) And that Lucius named Scorpius--I never believed that Draco would've come up with that abomination. And S Squared! Lol.

The one thing I didn't get, though, was Draco's comment about DEs when Scorpius went off with Al to get matching tattoos. It didn't seem germane to me.

Right. So, I was wondering if you've written any longer fics in this verse? I think I'd like to see a chaptered fic with this concept--but, um, no pressures, anyway. ;-} I'm gonna go look at the companion piece. Ta.

Thank you! Yeah...I am planning to write a proper fic starting from their Fifth Year, but I'm having too much fun RPing as the boys instead ^^;;

Maybe what I really need is to sit down and write my own twenty things.

Oh yes, definitely! I currently have...three Scorpius permutations lol. I differentiate them by their different middle names X-D Severus, Amaryllis and Hyperion.

Or try reading some of the ASS "classics" (any recs?)

Let's see...what made me fall hard for Score/Al is Maya's Coda to an Epilogue: Twenty Years Later, Or The Kids Are All Right. I like her idea of Score being younger than Al (born in August).

There's also two WIPs I'm following: The Inconvenience of Being a Malfoy (17 chapters so far) and To Know Thine Enemy (3 chapters so far)

"To Know Thine Enemy: Pomp and Circumstance" (One-shot complete)
Exploring the nature of grudges that not even adults can seem to work their way around. Albus Severus and Scorpius, Harry, and Draco.

So, yeah. I liked that Draco got together with Su Li. (I kinda love the idea of Draco/Luna or Draco/Susan Bones! If I wrote a fic, I'd be all... Astoria Greengrass Who?

lolol me too. The only het Draco I've written is Draco/Su Li (where Su Li's an indeterminate danger). And I like Li's character so much that I wondered, what would happen if Scorpius is half-Chinese?

Because I know many half-and-half kid who looks v. Caucasian except for their creamy smooth skin, brown hair and eyes. The hair thing can be fixed by magic, and Draco's so pale that Scorpius is only a shade darker (which is still bloody pale).

I've also met a few half-and-half kid that looks v. Asian except for their large light brown eyes and straighter nose. This is v. rare though--Caucasian genes seem to always trump over Chinese genes =P
So Jade looks 100% Chinese except for her amber eyes. And people might think it's from contacts lol.

Poo for Rolf and--wait, who did Jo say Susan married? I keep thinking Neville, but didn't he marry Hannah?

I like the idea of the Scamander twins though X-D
Lysander Scamander is such an awesome name <3

Neville married Hannah, yep.

And that Lucius named Scorpius--I never believed that Draco would've come up with that abomination. And S Squared! Lol.

Hee =D

The one thing I didn't get, though, was Draco's comment about DEs when Scorpius went off with Al to get matching tattoos. It didn't seem germane to me.

Hmm, how so?

So, I was wondering if you've written any longer fics in this verse? I think I'd like to see a chaptered fic with this concept--but, um, no pressures, anyway. ;-}

I want to! But right now I'm more interested in writing about a different version of Scorpius, actually ^^;; Scorpius Amaryllis Malfoy.

Probably because the S Squared is such BFFs that there's not enough conflict there to interest me in the pairing. So far the only conflict I can think of is Al's inner conflict over Score's cluelessness (and the temerity of Lily and Rose!) I might need to create a list of Slytherin housemates to introduce some conflict, haha.

Friendship fics are nice, but...eh, dunno. Fun enough to RP, but to write a sustained chaptered fic?
My favorite pairings are always the lifelong rivals/enemies type.
